ICDP needs your help...please get involved

Please select from the list below, and someone will be in touch.  Committee meetings will be posted at inghamcountydemocraticparty.net once we get set for the 2023-2024 election cycle.

For committees with a **, the Chair shall make the appointment and submit appointments to the Expanded Executive Committee for approval per the Bylaws.

    Communications

Create a coordinated communication strategy. Create and oversee any content for our websites, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, letters to the editor, emails, etc. to amplify the events and opportunities of ICDP, partners, and the excellent work that our Democratic leaders are doing.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Outreach & Coalition Building

Working with key partners in labor, environment, pro-choice, voter rights, LBGTQ+, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and other underrepresented communities to focus on increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Democratic Party and in our Community, County, State and Country.

    Elections Committee**

Recruit candidates for local offices, including school boards and other positions while providing training on the endorsement process and database training. The  committee also oversees our endorsement process. School boards and local races have become more important as the fight for human rights and dignity is moving to schools and local government.

    Finance**

Create an annual budget and oversee an annual audit. We are looking for people with an interest in learning or already experienced in campaign finance or non-profit governance.

    Fundraising and Special Events

Plan fundraisers and other events throughout the year. Shall work with other committees to assist with key objectives or support key partner events.

    Judicial Qualifications**

Makes recommendations on judicial candidates and judicial appointments based on the ICDP bylaws. A  majority of the Committee shall be attorneys.

    Membership

We have a lot of critical data entry needs that will help make our Party be more effective in helping candidates. With your help, we will have more accurate volunteer lists and fundraising lists so that we can get more people involved in the activities they want to do. All because of you.

    Organization and Development

Hold or assist with voter registration drives throughout the year.  Act as liaison to MSU, LCC, youth organizations, and high schools to organize young Democrats or progressives.

Recruit precinct delegates and captains across the county; host training for these individuals so that they are informed community leaders who are encouraged to facilitate opportunities for our elected leaders and candidates to connect with their neighborhood/community.

    Resolutions and Bylaws

Responsible for considering any resolutions or amendments to the bylaws and reporting to the Expanded County Committee. Resolutions are an important way to share ICDP values by bringing an issue to our membership. Some of the current bylaws are antiquated and need to be reviewed for updates.

    Welcome Committee
Every week, we have new people who may wish to become involved whether in-person or attend an event. It can be overwhelming with different rules, bylaws and activities.

We need friendly people who are willing to follow up with new people either by phone calls or emails and be a point person to support them in becoming involved.

    War on Democracy in Michigan

“The war on democracy is escalating,”

    Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson

    Michigan Secretary of State Benson

Unfortunately, that war is being waged from within, by conservatives in the Republican Party.  Throughout the nation, they’ve opened the door to Jim Crow while slamming it shut on heroes like John Lewis.  Even in our home state, the Republican-led Senate fights our own voters, introducing legislation designed to prevent Michigan’s citizens from exercising their hard-fought right to vote.  They even want to restrict your freedom to vote by absentee ballot.
